Hello, welcome to Koleszar Pottery, my name is Hedwig
Koleszar. I have been potting in the eastern section of the island for 36 years now, and I'd like to think that I have improved somewhat since then. The studio is nestled into the green hills
of the Gairloch Road, so that I can hardly avoid being inspired by the beauty
and sweetness of nature surrounding me. You can find me by following the blue
and white government signs from Eldon for 11 km.
I enjoy working
with porcelain, it's smooth and buttery, really a joy to throw. It lends itself
perfectly to the delicate shapes that I love. To make a pot, this clay is
centered, thrown into a graceful form, dried to a perfect consistency, trimmed
and smoothed to shape, brushed with either subdued or warm colours on a cream
background, and twice fired using only safe glazes.
You are
invited to see this work in progress.
Please do wander in the lush gardens, a happy blend of
the wild and the cultivated. Have a seat, and relax with a cup of tea. The
antics of the Guinea fowl, ducks, and hens will amuse you. And while you are
here, you might feed a flower to the mama goat and her frolicking kid.
